The "coolant light" just came on the dash of my car. Of course it's a week-end and late at night when everything is closed. I checked my owners manual and it states that I should top off with coolant...however the manual also states that only Volvo coolant should be used and that I should not "mix" with other coolants. Since I only have my car serviced at new car Volvo dealerships I am assuming that they have used Volvo coolant in the past...which means I can't use a generic brand at my time of need because then I would be mixing two different kinds of coolant. I live 45 miles from the nearest Volvo dealership. Therefore I would really like to just add more coolant myself.
If I use a coolant other than Volvo coolant will I do any damage to my car. It is supposed to get colder out and I can't get to a Volvo dealership until Monday or Tuesday.
