Rear Foglight Question 850 1993

Quite right - rear fog lamp goes on the driver's side. They used to be on both sides until about 10 years ago. Too many people were fooled by them, supposing they were brake lights.

They are not needed on both sides, as one light makes you plenty visible at a distance. The second light adds nothing to your noticeability, but can obviously do something to confuse other drivers.

On my messy winter commute along a foggy, snowy, rainy, slushy New England coast highway, I see plenty of Volvos, Audis and Saabs with the lantern. But oddly, no BMW's or Mercedes. The rear lantern on these cars is very noticeable from a good distance.
