brake squeeks

Hi. My XC is just 2.5 years old and got only 26,000km (or 16,000) miles. One of or some of the brakes started squeeking a while ago. When I took my car to the garage for the 30,000km service, I mentioned it to the guy. When the car came back from the service the noise stopped. After a few weeks, it is there again! I'm not sure what causes this hissing noise. It's hard to suspect there is anything wrong with the rotor or brake pad given the car's age and mileage. Is there any reason why the brake makes noises? cold weather?
