MY CAR IS A LEMON S40-V40 2001

Hello,

I own a 2000 S40 and i'd like to share my bad experiences so far with my car.
I should have checked Volvo forums and opinions before purchasing this car. It
is a nice and spunky car, but after about 8k miles I feel the car wear out on
me and I pamper this car to death. At first I took my car to the dealer for
the 7500k maintenance and reported a transmission clunk problem. I haven`t done anything to my stock S40 yet and after 6,000 miles of safe driving, I feel a clunk, like there is something loose on the left front side of the car when decelarating from 40mph and tapping on the gas again to pull. I took it to a local Volvo dealer here and had a service rep drive my car and he too felt it. He had 3 mechanics drive the car and said that this is normal. They had me drive two used S40s and it felt the same way. I also feel a rough gear transition from 3rd gear to 2nd, and from 2nd to 1st gear when I`m about to come to a full stop from the brake pedal feel. Does anyone here feel the same thing in their S40s? I went ahead and took Volvos word that there is no problem
on this whatsoever.

After 2 mos my power steering crashed and power steering fluid was leaking like
crazy. Great!!! Thanksgiving weekend was just two days away and I need this car for out of state travel. I've driven and owned so many cars and never had a problem with them Toyotas and Hondas, so the Volvo is sort of a step up in the car class that I want to own if you know what I'm sayin. ;-) Dealer said they need to keep this car for a couple of days so they loaned me a V40. I got the problem fixed and after 3 weeks, the power steering crashed again with the same problem. Great!!!! I need to use this car for the Xmas holiday season this time and Volvo won't let me drive their loaner out of my metro area, pissed me off!

I took it to the dealer and no questions asked, the agent gave me a filthy S40 loaner car. After 21 days, I still don't have my car and the volvo technician said that they need to replace the rack and pinion unit (whatever that is). He also said that this problem might have been connected to the transmission clunk problem I reported the first time I had my car serviced.

I guess one more strike and I will ask this dealer to replace this car. It's been so inconvenient to me to go to the dealer all the time. Has anyone experienced the same problems with their s40? Comments please. thanks
