Considering a Volvo V70-XC70 1998

Dave, my '98 V70 AWD with 5-spd stick drives and handles great. Best seats I've ever sat in. However, consider getting the extended warranty plan if it's still available. It will save you a bundle if you plan to keep the car. Reliability is not one of the strong points of Volvo. In the last 4 months I've spent $7046CDN on repairs. Clutch and bearing and flywheel, wheel bearings and hubs, main engine wiring harness, main wiring harness to dash and secondary wiring harness, altimeter sensor. While under warranty they replaced stereo system, air-conditioner compressor, rear brake rotors, all exterior lights and wiring harness leading to them, and others I don't recall anymore. Electrical has been a known problem from the '80 days when Volvo had a recall for wiring harness from a class action law suit. Seems they didn't learn. As some one on this board said "a Volvo is a backyard mechanics wet dream" My first and last Volvo, for life!
