Code P0172, please help V70-XC70 1998

This code has popped up in my car as well, also while idling, at a traffic light. It is my understanding that the car must idle 30 seconds for diagnostics to be performed. After clearing the code, I would go weeks sometimes without a Check Engine light. Then it would pop up again. I thought it could be a gas cap issue, and bought a new gas cap, but that didn't stop the occasional 172 code.

When I posted the question on this board, nobody seemed to know what it was. Rich K, of Bay 13 did not recognize the code. Since I am using a generic scan tool, maybe Volvo maps that code differently. I'm going to call 1-800-25Volvo (258-6586) and get the Pocket Data Handbook that includes all the codes.

My independent also didn't know what it was. Maybe I should just take it to the dealer for a reading when it pops up again.

Let me know what you find out.
