Steam coming from the fan

I opened to hood to muck around and I noticed some white steam coming from the cooling fan right behind the radiator. Does anyone have any idea where this steam is coming from? A mechanic once told me there is a leak in the radiator somewhere but how did they check behind the fan? I've only had to put just a little radiator fluid in the tank since I've had the car for almost a year now.
