Transmission, Fluid Change, PNP switch or else ... 850 1993

I've been reading posts for over 5 hours and I'm getting more and more confused. I have 93 850 and I experienced first problems for about month ago (slight slipping from 1-2 and 2-3 but after that runs smooth). I checked fluid level but it was always at the max. I bought a car at 73000 miles and never asked when the tranny fluid was changed. The manual doesn't state it as well. The car was acting normal when cold but after some driving it was acting the same. Oil change guys told me that transmission oil is a bit dirty. I made a 500 mile trip and car ran great but barely made the last hill (Ran on high rpm but barely moved). Today I let the car run (it was -21C) and thought I'll make it to the auto body place and change transmission oil but the orange arrow started blinking as well as E and S mode selectors. I got in lipm-home mode and barely made back to my house. I see all these "read the fault transmission codes" or "change PNP switch" advices but I've never done aything with my car and I don't want to pay dealer 3000 if I just need the switch. The problem is that the nearset dealer is about 3 hours away. Also how should I know if the local mechanics would do the good job. Is there a way to look for certified volvo mechanics by area? Also how do you check thos codes so I can make sure what my problem is.
Could someone also post what should my actions be.
Thanks in advance
