Transmission problems???Please Help 850 1996

My car worked fine yesterday, we got a snow storm last night, temperature dropped below freezing, I come out this morning and the big, orange up-arrow on the dash board is flashing. Not only that, but the rocker switch on the center console that controls the Economy/Sport/Winter settings is also flashing. When I put the car in Drive, it barely moves until you get up some speed. It almost feels like the car is trying to start in a high gear. Like if you started a Standard car in 3rd gear from a stop. It started to feel a little more responsive the more I drove it, but the lights were still flashing.
If I recall correctly, this same condition happened about two years ago, but somehow cleared itself up the next day? Weird.
Thanks for your help.
