850 general reliability, dependability 850

I had asked a similar question on this board a month ago. I bought an 850R new in 1996 and it now has a little over 40,000 miles on it. My 92 940 Turbo 9 (also purchased new) just passed 155,000 miles and is still going strong mechanically. I had asked whether others who owned both lines felt the 850 series line was as strong a line as the 900 series. The best post I remember to my question stated that the 850 was not as proven a series as the 900 and still, perhaps, had some ironing out issues. My 850 is still mechanically strong. I am not as impressed with the exterior finish of the 850 as with the 940. The only mechanical issue to date with the 850R was an altenator failure at 30,000 (covered with warranty). The 850R series is a fantastic machine. If you like power and superb handling, consider looking for one and giving it a test drive. I think that you will be impressed. Good luck!
