Tilt Steering 850 1997

Had the exact same problem. The nut is on the right side of the steering column, just behind the wiper switch arm. If you fully lower and extend the steering wheel, you can look through a "slot" on the right side of the column and see the nut.

I couldn't find a tool to get to it without removing the cover. Luckily, I was due for service while I was trying to figure it out. My mechanic (good Indie guy) fixed it without being asked (and without charging, I might add). I forgot to ask him how he got to it.

Wish I could be more help, but this can at least get you started.
