Steering fine on left turns, stiff on right turns 850

Hello---I am new to this board and appreciate any information that folks here can give.

I have a 1993 850 GLT and until yesterday the steering was fine. Yesterday I did a few tight turns in a parking lot (at very low speeds) and since then, the steering is very stiff (i.e. takes a lot of effort) when turning to the right, suggesting a loss of power steering. However, turning to the left is just as easy as it always has been. My rack and pinion was replaced last year, so I think (or at least hope) that there is no problem with it. My mechanic suggests looking at the power steering pump.

Any suggestions/thoughts? Thanks in advance!

Michael
