ignition switch and headlights 850

hello, im the new owner of a 96 850. when i first bought the car (this past tuesday) i thought the headlight switch was burnt out. i had no turn signals at all. then i tried turning on the headlights. i had turn signals/parking lights and dash lights with the parking lights turned on, but when i turned the switch to put on the headlights, i had nothing at all. i had this problem in my audi before, so i just tunred the key back a tiny bit, and POW!!! everything came on. is this common? is there a recall on the ignition switch, or do i need to replace it or there a simple fix. thanks
