855 Tailgate Wiper 850 1995

I had a similar problem with our '88 740 wagon.

Check the pivot where the arm articulates. In my case the pivot was stiff. A little penetrating lubricant and some exercise cured the problem. I now lubricate it every oil change.

I think that the wiper arm on the rear of the wagon is exposed to rain and DIRT that causes the pivot to get stiff. Mine was actually rusty. The pivots in the front wiper arms do not get as much abuse as the rear, but a little lube here would not hurt them.
