My 850 will not start 850 1993

Two weeks ago, my '93 850 would not start--plenty of gas and the battery was fine. I had the car towed to the local Volvo/Saab repair shop, after the car sat in their lot for 5 days, they said it was probably flooded, but I would need a new distributor and wires...$250 and two weeks later the car did the same thing, it started for a second and then died. It will not turn over it sounds like a whirring noise and it will not fire up. I am taking the car back to the same repair guy but wanted to see what anyone thought. Last time I posted a message up here, you guys were dead on. Thanks, Mark
