Brake mystery has my dealer stumped S70 1999

My 1999 S70 has an intermittent problem that nobody can solve so far. There is an intermittent physical tapping you can feel in the brake pedal when applying the brakes, accompanied by an audible (but not very loud) tapping sound. It lasts for only 3-4 seconds, occurs when braking from highway speed or low speed, and, get this, the frequency is always the same (about 2 taps per second) regardless of the speed of the vehicle as it slows. In an hour of driving around town it will occur 2-3 times. It is completely different from when the ABS engages. Any ideas on what this is? Thanks.
