Lifter Tapping S70 1999

I recently picked up a used 99 S70 T5. After I drove it for a while I started getting a tapping noise from the engine. When I took it to the dealer for an oil change I had them check it out. The Tech said it was normal for this engine, especially if you do a lot of low RPM & stop and go driving. His solution was; to be sure I was running synthetic oil (I was), then run up the RPM by driving in low gear for a few miles. I have had some success with this method, but the tapping returns in a few days.

Is anyone else having this issue? Can I damage my tranny by driving in low gear appox. 60mph to reach 4,500 rpm for a few miles?
