What sort of noise do you get when braking and accelerating?
I had a knocking noise in these circumstances (like a clang). They replaved 2 driveshafts, the propshaft, rebuilt the rear diff and replaced the transfer box. This was all main dealer work - they even replaced the tyres as they were getting desparate. Eventually an independant Volvo man found it was a simple universal coupling that was the problem.
