Economy vs Sport 850 1996

For the past few weeks I have been comparing the economy vs sport mode on my 850R. My commute to work is about 25 miles, the first six being on densely trafficed interstate (bumper to bumper) the next 12 is on less dense turnpike (legal limit most of the time) and the last seven is in town traffic (35 - 40 mph, traffic lights and stop signs) and the reverse in the evening. My MPG display reads between 21.1 and 21.4 with no difference whether I am in economy or sport mode. I obviously enjoy driving in the sport mode rather than the economy, on my typical commute will it have any deleterious effect just leaving the transmission in the sport mode?
