intermittent keyless remote door lock 850 1996

Hello all,

My keyless remote door lock has become increasingly intermittent over the years and now it's quite annoying. Sometimes I stand beside my car and press repeatedly with no locking/unlocking action. Other times it works first time.

My first thought was a bad battery in the remote, so I replaced it. Unfortunately, that didn't help. Also, I have two remote units and they both act the same.

Looks like I need a new remote receiver? Has anyone replaced one of those, and if so how difficult is it? Is this a common problem with my model/year?

Any guidance would be most appreciated!
