V40 Gearbox Noise S40-V40 2000

I have a 2000 V40 (US Model 25000 miles) with the 4 speed auto box. For some time I have noticed that when going from a zero throttle state to any acceleration at approximately 35mph there is a knocking / clunking noise coming from the gearbox as it changes down a gear. It also makes a similar noise when releasing the accelerator at the same speed when it changes up a gear.

My local dealer and a Volvo rep say that this noise is to be expected, but they did however change the transmission fluid as it was "Oxidised". The replacement fluid has made no difference to the noise, in fact it is probably worse. I

Does anyone else have any experience with this type of noise and how I might convince my dealer to fix it under warranty.

Thanks in advance.
