Air pump? S40-V40

The noise you are hearing is from the brake vacuum pump. The pump is Volvo Part number 30884444, but the pump is running so that is not your problem. The problem is more than likely the relay that is located with the pump the part number for the relay is 1323592. Take the car to a dealer and you shouldn't have a problem getting the parts you need to fix it. You might want to have it looked at by a technician that knows something about the system, cause there are pressure sensors and check valves connected to the pump as well. Oh ya the pump is to help keep a good vacuum in your brake booster when you start up.
