Possibly a really ignorant question.. be nice :) 850 1995

My wife has just purchased a 1995 wine-colored Volvo 850 sedan. The car is nice, it seems to run great, however there's one slight problem: I don't know much about Volvos. (Actually I don't know anything about Volvos). I'm a Camaro (LT1/LS1) and Mitsubishi (4G63) man. :)

I've been reading the archives here and now I'm a bit more confused about what exactly my wife has gotten us into. I'm sure the car isn't an 850R. On the rear trunk lid it simply says "850" and under the right taillight assembly it has a "Turbo" emblem. The wheels are the 'spiral' shaped versions 16" in size. The car is an automatic w/ most all the options except headlight wipers. The engine is (duh) a turbo engine. The original owners manual is missing so I'm at a loss as to what trim level the car is.

My question is: Is this car the "low pressure" turbo? And if it is the low pressure turbo am I'm relatively screwed on any form of performance upgrades such as ECU, larger intercooler, things like this? I've read the FAQ on the TME.com website and they seem really down on the low pressure turbo variant as far as engine strength goes.

Thanks for any info you can provide. This is our first Volvo and it seems like a nice car, just a tad slow. ;)
