I was just driving out of town (headed for the highway actually...) and I felt a slight vibration in the car. It was more like a pulsating feeling. Not thinking much of it, I continued to drive and not more than a minute later it worsened. I pulled over to find a cloud of smoke coming from the front driver's side wheel well. I took the wheel off, burned myself on the wheel bolts (VERRRRYYYYY HOT!) and got the wheel off. What I'd like to know is this, the holes that the bolts go into, they are supposed to be lined up between the rotor and the hub are they not? What I discovered was that the ONE of the holes was lined up properly, but the other 4 were grossly off position. It's almost as though the hub was torqued from the wheel/rotor and the bolts were the only thing to stop it from rotating further. To compound the problem, since the bolts were taken out and cooled quickly, they no longer fit the holes... they are too small, they thread properly, but are loose like a childs tooth. The car's sitting at the dealership as we speak.... waiting for monday. The rotor is 'burnt', if you will, the steel has 'blued' and the rust is a vibrant red colour now (not hot anymore... ). The rotors and all braking components are genuine replacement parts, nothing hokey. PLEASE ADVISE! Would this possible be the result of a poor brake job (ie. rotor not installed properly??? Brakes were done a year and a half ago. Thank you!
