Change of color of the oil in 5000 miles is normal. It means that the oil is carrying in solution the byproducts of combustion (those which are too small to be filtered) and doing its job.

If one had to change oil based on color, diesels would be changed about every 5 minutes.

If you still are uneasy, have a sample tested next time you drain--
