2000 S70 versus 1998 S70 S70

Pardon my curiosity, but what is the reason for changing your car? Is there a recurring problem or do you just want a newer car? I own a '98 base S70 with a manual 5-speed transmission and am very happy with it. I would not trade it for a later model year. Although there are some features in the later models that are desirable, like the more sophisticated airbags and valve train, other features in the newer cars turn me off. One example is fly-by-wire throttle. I have an old-fashioned cable, whereas the MY2000 have a fly-by-wire. Another electronic gadget to fail, IMO. And they DO fail leaving the car inoperable. Even if the bugs were worked out, I still like to have my throttle input controlled by me, not an 8 bit microcontroller. Another unpleasant "feature" is VADIS. This is a very sophisticated system Volvo has implemented to effectively prevent independent techs as well as tree-shade techs from working on your Volvo. I am not too crazy about that. So, all in all, I cannot justify to myself trading up to a later MY. Also, and I am not sure of you are in the same situation, the '98 car I have right now I have owned since new and have known it all its life. All the problems and glitches that have occurred and have been resolved are known to me. If I get into another (used) car, I have to start from a position where I do not really know where this car has been and what its history is. Something to think about...

Good luck.
