2000 S70 versus 1998 S70 S70

As has been pointed out there are some differences. The '00 timing belt doesn't need to be changed until 105k. You can also reset the service reminder light yourself. While unlike the '98s the '00 cars do have all-speed traction control, if so optioned, I don't think true stability control came along until the S60.

The '98 and '99 are on the Consumer Reports "Used Cars to Avoid" list last year, but not the '00. Is that because they're more reliable or because CR didn't have the data? Stay tuned, we'll find out in the April issue next month!

Financially ... the "spread" between a '98 GLT@ wholesale v. a '00 STD @ retail is about $6000. You can buy an engine for that.

I have a '98 V70T5M with 88k. I've had all the usual problems. I still wouldn't bother to trade it for a '00, even in the unlikely event that I could find a '00 optioned the same way. I might be tempted by an '02 if the bi-xenon headlights ever appear, though. My current plans are to keep my '98 for the 100k mile badge and then some.
