t5 turbo lag and torque steer....

The year of the car may make a bit of difference. I think
newer T5s (01, 02) models are a bit more civil. I have a 98
T5 with a manual transmission and it can really just jump and
take off on you (not a car to teach someone to drive in).
2nd gear will spin the tires and so will third (at 65 MPH)
unless you are pointing straight ahead. Turbo lag is not
all that bad with the manual but torque steer can catch you
off guard (but you easily get used to torque steer).

I have driven an S60 T5M and power delivery was much better then
my 98 (not as "thirlling" but thrilling is not always good).

Unless you really like powerful cars the GLT would probbaly
be a better choice. It would be my choice for the next
family wagon (currently also have a 95 NA GLT wagon and that
is a bit underpowered). But, I would want to try the 02 T5s,
first.
