Of course people should be free to drive thyroidal monsters, designed for wannabe explorers who enjoy petrol station forecourts and massive tyre replacement bills.

It's a free country after all and the resources that go into an SUV would only be wasted making water pumping engines, ploughs, books or other low-tech items for the bloody foreigners.

Much better to sell them F-5s and Macdonalds while you buy their cheap coffee and trainers.

God bless America - and those who think with their brains, not their prejudices.
