Slow warm up; not much heat 850 1996

Hopefully, this will be a really easy fix. The temp gauge on my 96 850 shows that the engine is warming up very slowly and the gauge settles in at the low end of the normal range. The heater doesnt put out much heat. The car does not have automatic climate control. If this were one of the old cars, I would just replace the thermostat. Is the thermostat the likely problem or should I be concerned with the coolant sensor. Thanks in advance for all suggestions
