Chill out 850 1996

Hey Sin,

I am well aware of your contributions to this board and have publicly thanked you for them. That being said, I do have to say that I think you're being a bit too hard on this newbie. Some of us on the board, like me, are complete technophobes and bought a Volvo for reasons other than a burning desire to tinker with it. I myself just successfully flushed my ATF per the volvospeed (and Ozbrick) instructions, and I amazed myself in the process- hey, my brick didn't blow up, the engine didn't drop out, etc. etc. But that being said, there is no way I will replace my brake rotors, pads, whatever, given my *current* level of expertise. This is especially applicable to areas like brakes, where a goof on my part would seriously endanger my life and that of my family. Sin, I think you have been working on your brick so long that you don't know how to imagine seeing the world through an amateur's eyes. Give us technophobes a chance to learn, let us work our way up from a windshield washer T-valve to a power antenna switch to an ATF flush to a brake job.

Perhaps in another 60,000 miles I will feel competent and confident enough to do my brakes, but I sure as hell will visit a competent mechanic at this time to have that particular job done. And if that's the case, I think it is entirely reasonable for someone to query this board as to a fair labor rate for a brake job.

One thing I enjoy about the brickboard is the respect that we all show one another, even if people ask the same questions over and over and over again. So to paraphrase that great philosopher Rodney King, let's all just get along!
