antenna mast installation problem 850 1996

After removing the broken off portion of a previous mast out of the power antenna motor, I installed a new mast as instructed by Bay 13. All went perfectly untill I turned the radio back on. Now, the motor pushes the antenna out too far and beyond the housing...very wobbly at full mast! I reinstalled the antenna multiple times, tried cycling the power a bunch of times, to no avail. Anyone heard of this problem?
