Installed E-Code Lenses last night... What a difference! S70 1998

I am not sure what bulb type you use for the 1997 850 (9005, 9006?), but I would stick with the following brands if the type is available:

1. Sylvania Xtravision
2. Osram Super, SilverStar
3. Philips Hi-Visibility, Premium, VisionPlus
4. Narva RangePower

The other bulbs, I believe, are meant to look 'cool' (BlueVision, SuperWhites, etc) rather than provide better night visibility. The Philips Hi-Visibility and Premium bulbs states that light output is increased by up to 30%. The VisionPlus bulb states that light output is increased by up to 50%.

I installed the Philips VisionPlus bulbs on both our S70s, which improved night visibility. My next step would be the e-code lenses, which I believe will make a big difference. It will cost me $400+ for 4 lenses so I am putting it off for now. (Thanks to davidm and the other guys)

I installed Philips Hi-Visibility on our 1991 Maxima and what a difference. My other observation with the Maxima headlamps is that the beam is somewhat more focused on the road compared to that of our Volvos.

Cheers.
