Very slow wipers 850 1996

My wipers started "slowing down" lately until they couldn't even move 50% across the windshield. I tried a search on the board about the problem but all I could was that the problem was seen on the 240 and 700 series Volvos and it was related to faulty terminals for the wiper motor. I am wondering does the same thing happen to the 850 series ? I had my motor changed lately as I couldn't really wait but should I have had the terminals cleaned instead of changing the motor ?
