IPD Springs, Bilstien Shocks, IPD ECU upgrade? 850

I just picked up a 97 850 T5 Wagon. Although the ride is ok, I would like to upgrade the suspension to get a firmer ride, but not one thats going to greatly compromise the ride comfort. I love the feeling of race cars, but not on the street. How do IPD's springs match up to say, Eibachs, or are they the same thing? Any luck with Konis, Bilstien, Tokico, Boge.
Also, I've heard that the IPD ECU upgrade is a great performance booster, but does it sacrifice reliability on turbo life, pistons, tranny?
Thanks for any feedback,
Pete
