By-pass filters fr. Amsoil? 850

We have a 95 850 GLT wgn. that we just bought about 5k ago. It has been in for a leak down test, coolant flush, and safety check. According to the dealer it's good to go. However, there is what appears to be a huge oil filter in the car. It is located in the right front of the undercarriage, the bottom of it hangs just above the lower spoiler bodywork, and did I mention it is huge? The bottom of it is as a Mann filter in diameter, but the thing is 8 to 10 inches tall. I don't know how to describe what it is attached to other than to call it an oversized hose clamp with a fitting that covers the top of this "filter". Where would I find a cross reference chart if I pull it and find some numbers? Anyone? By the amount of corrosion I'd say it has not been changed in too long, whatever in the heck it is.
