what does GLE mean for Canadians? 850 1996

it's a 1996 850GLE. it's a canadian model. according to this

it should have 20 valves and 168 hp. however, my manual says that in 1996, they offered a 10 valve engine that produced 144 horsepower. did they not sell 10 valve N/A engines in the US or something?

i'm puzzled.
