ABS/Trac lights on 850 1995

in my case it was the pump - the code said something like "rear right valve closed or open circuit" meaning that the coil that operates the valve was not working code pulled by my mechanic. dealer told me that "probably the computer is bad and sends wrong info, 9 out of 10 do bad". dealer wanted:
1. $600 for new computer
2. $200 to install it.
then Iasked what if it IS THE PUMP? they said another
3. $1200 for the pump
4. $400 to install the pump.

I ended up trying one computer from junk yard right on the spot - and it did not work.
Then I bought whole unit (computer w/ pump) for ~$400 from a junk yard, tried that second computer -did not work.
then replaced the pump - it still works(knock-knock)now.
it is possible to try another computer on 850 without installing it - just switch the plug and clear the codes, then start the car.
