Flame trap trouble? 850 1997

I changed my flame trap [old one was missing], cleaned out a lot of gunk, cleaned the throttle body [a lot of gunk, again], and during the process, I noticed that a small hose had become separated. The hose was one of two [lower] connected to the flame trap housing. I jammed it back together, assuming that it is one of many held by tension. Is this right? It was oily in that area, and I don't know what travels through that hose [air, but why the oil?]
Thanks
