how to power VOLALP adapter? 850

I installed an Alpine cd changer and ran cable from trunk to headunit and plugged in VOLALP adapter. How do I get my 12 volt constant power? I read in the archives that I could get it from the headunit harness but I don't know how to "splice" into this without compromising the power to the headunit. I read the wire map at bay13 and identified which wire is 12 volts, but I don't know how to use it. I'm so close...HELP! Thanks.
