Power steerimg oil leak..:( 850 1996

Hi all! Got a problem that could burn me a hole in the pocket. So needed
some advice. When I took my '96 850 Turbo for the 70K service the mechanic
said that there was a leak in power steering system. Yesterday when I bent
down and looked under the car on the frontside I saw a leak - there is a
plastic protector of sorts that is cracked and soaked in oil. The oil is
not dripping onto the ground though because there are oil patches. I remember
scraping this part (the plastic cover) when I parked the car once or twice.
Maybe I damaged something there.

If this leak is from the power-steering system, then how much am I looking
at. The mechanic who did the 70K service said that it would cost $1K but said
that I could get by with just replenishing the power steering fluid because
it was a slow leak.

Any advice with estimates from any of you with similar experiences would be
