2000 V70R V70-XC70

First off, there are a lot of people on this forum that seem to a synthetic oil called Amsoil. I checked into it and found it to be very expensive. Too expensive for my taste. I talked with my mechanic at the dealer I frequent, and his advice is this: Although using regular motor oil will work, the use of pure synthetic oil is a better alternative because regular oil will not stand up to the same punishment that synthetic oil will. His advice was to use something like Valvoline or Mobile 1. Change the oil at the same interval (5000 miles on the 850) as you would regular oil. He also mentioned that 91 octane is the the preferred fuel(the owners manuel states this), and to use standard plugs(the owners manuel states this)--the reason for standard plugs being that platinum's will mess up the computer sensor readings.

I bought my 97 850R new, dealer maintained (56k miles),and have since followed his advice. I use Valvoline pure synthetic 5w-40 ($4.49 qt with no oil flush) for Colorado climate. My car does not and has never burned oil. I stick to the 5000 mile change interval.

Bottom line: I follow the owners manuel. They built the car. This car runs perfect. Just my opinion.
