S60R - Just a rumor?

There has been a lot of speculation about this car on the net and such sites as volvospy.com says it is imminent that Volvo will indeed release this 300hp vehicle sometime this spring.

However, when I asked about this vehicle at my local dealership, none of the sales staff seemed to have a clue what I was tallking about. The general manager acknowledged (less than convincingly to me at least) that he had heard that it would not be available until either late summer or fall. All of which seems a bit less than promising.

I would think that if this vehicle has been officially slated for production all the dealerships would be getting the word out and trying to book advance orders on this alleged new performance flagship. I have no doubt that any of their competitors would seize the moment if it were one of their own top-range models.

From a marketing perspective, this vehicle may already be doomed unless there is some reason why Volvo chooses to remain so hushed about it.

I would love to drive (and perhaps buy) one myself. For that matter, I think that a C70R would be an even better idea; one that might in fact boost sagging sales of this beautiful coupe.

Anyone have any thoughts on this one?
