front end axle work 850

I now have my 93 at a front end specialist as my axle boots were torn and grease was all over both wheels. The guy quoted $1200 for both remanufactured axles, both tie rods, stablizer bushings. He said for $600 he can at least do the axles. they had to be done! This would also include front alignment. I'm a pretty good mechanic. I can do my own brakes, tuneups, engine mounts, etc. Is this a job I can do myself? Are there others of you who have done this sort of thing? I'd like to know. I know that these parts can be gotten via online for $500 or so. Really appreciate your input
