cooling probs 850 1996

hi,

My '96 850 t-5 stated overcooling so yesterday the thermosat was changed. The bit that hold the plunger bit to the top of the thermostat was broken off!!!

Today I noticed that the expansion tank cap was cracked!!!!!!!! The guy were i got the cap from said i had to much pressure in the cooling system or that the system had not been bleed properly and that i should have it pressure tested before putting the new cap on, is this true?????

Could it just of been a faulty pressure valve in the cap or is it much worse???

The car never overheated and has a full service history so the coolant has been changed every 2 years, I HOPE!!!!

i've put the new cap on anyway and not tightened it too much i'm taking a trip on the motorway this evening and i hope everything holds together can anyone give me some advice before i leave plzzz

cheers.
