Looking at 1998 V70 R V70-XC70 1998

Chris:

I just purchased '98 R in December (33K miles, Silver/Graphite). It has been great so far.

From readings here on Brickboard and other sites, you can get a wealth of info related to this and other Volvos. Two items of note: Make sure R has same size tires. Also, local Volvo dealer tech strongly recommends changing tranny fluid every ~25K miles instead of the recommended (50k-60k?). You may get dealer to do this for you as part of negotiation of purchase (normally ~$160+).

You should verify that the car has had appropriate services done. I recently changed spark plugs, cap rotor and new ones made a big difference in performance. Before purchasing mine, I looked at a bunch at local dealers. Most dealers said that they would perform scheduled maintainance effort (appropriate to mileage) to get car up to date or in some cases, a few said they would perform NEXT one due. Again, this can be part of negotiation.

Good luck and enjoy!
