flame trap question 850 1993

Today I attempted to replace my flame trap(FT). I pulled the throttle body hose off and the turned the flame trap assembly to access the flame trap. Much to my suprise there was none. Moreover, the assembly/housing was cracked. It appears that someone (maybe previous owner) attempted to replace the FT and broke it in the process. I am curious what affect this may have had on the vechile(running w/out a FT)? I am going to purchase a new housing and insert a new FT. Too bad dealers are not open on Sundays. :) Any additional maintaince I should do in this situation?
