Flushed my tranny this weekend... Easy! 850 1995

Couldn't be easier. Disconnected the top hose at the cooler near the battery, pushed a 4' section of clear vinyl hose over the tranny hose fitting, put the other end in a 5 gallon bucket and started the car. About every ten seconds you'll see bubbles in the line. Stop the engine, put in a couple of quarts of fresh ATF (I used Shell Dexron III since this was the first flush for me and I'll do it again in 1000 miles at which time I'll go synthetic) and repeat the procedure. I ended up using 14 quarts to get nice red fluid coming out of the tranny, then a quart or so to top it off to the proper level.

The fluid that came out of my car was pretty dark but at least didn't smell burnt. I couldn't see through it as it was pumping through the clear hose. Near the end, when the clean fluid was being pumped out, I could.

Flushing from the upper hose doesn't flush the tranny fluid cooler but removing the lower hose will at least let you drain it.

I would recommend that the O-rings on the hose fittings be replaced and if your spring clamps are getting weak, replace them and put hose clamps around the clips. Sort of a belt and suspenders "piece-of-mind" precaution. I had mine zip tied but the ties I was using got brittle in cold weather.

I would also recommend the same for the oil cooler on turbo models.

Now I'm feeling lots better about my tranny. Next projects? Nothing major, spark plugs and relocate the horns, trailer hitch and tint the windows.
