Trip computer & clock blank out. Battery disconn. and con > =OK for a while 850 1995

After the battery was disconnected for a day or so (some welding / spray-job), every thing worked fine as the battery was connected again.
A few days later the trip computer & clock went totally blank. Last evening a thought came to me: What if it gets a reset = battery disconnecting and connect again?
After doing that it works again (at least until now).
Anybody now whats the cause of blanking out?
