brake pad replacement question... 850

I just received new rotors and pads for the front and pads for the rear of my '94 855. Do I need the silicone grease on the back of the pads? The Mintex pads came with a thin rubbery shim stuck to the back of the front pads. It seems this is to prevent noise....right? So do I need the grease? If so, will any grease work? The guy at a parts store here said to use anti-sieze. I've changed some pads on other cars before, but never used anything, but I understand that Volvs are prone to brake noise.

Also, the bay 13 instructions differ from a set at eastern aerospace. At the latter, it looks like the 7 mm guide pins don't have to come out at all if you are changing the rotors as well as the pads. Anyone do it this way?
